Network Solutions Review: Domains, Hosting, Renewals, and Transfers

Network Solutions offers convenient all-in-one web services, but its renewal costs, add-ons, refund limits, and domain-transfer steps demand careful account management.

Quick SavvyVerdict take

Network Solutions is one of the longest-running names in internet services. Today it sells a broad small-business stack: domain registration and transfers, shared and WordPress hosting, an AI-assisted website builder, professional email, SSL certificates, domain privacy, SiteLock security, backup services, and marketing help. The appeal is convenience. A business can keep several web services in one account and contact one provider when setup becomes confusing.

Our verdict is mixed. Network Solutions is a legitimate provider with a large product range, public support documentation, and enough guided services for a small business to get online. It is not our first recommendation for price-sensitive domain owners. Promotional prices can be much lower than renewals, checkout can introduce automatically renewing extras, and the published refund policy starts from a general no-refund position with narrow exceptions.

This is a research-based review of current public products, pricing pages, help articles, and independent customer-feedback patterns. We did not run a long-term hosting benchmark or place a test support call for this article.

What Network Solutions offers

Domains remain the center of the business. The official search and pricing pages cover hundreds of top-level domains, premium names, transfers, forwarding, privacy, expiration protection, and account-level DNS management. The company also sells shared hosting with an included site builder, separate WordPress hosting, custom-domain email, SSL certificates, SiteLock security, and related online-business services.

This breadth is useful when a buyer wants a simple vendor relationship. A new business can register a name, attach hosting, create email boxes, and publish a basic site without coordinating several companies. The tradeoff is that each convenience product has its own billing term, renewal price, cancellation path, and technical scope. A domain transfer does not automatically move hosting, email, or an online store, so consolidation and separation both require planning.

Domain registration and renewal pricing

Network Solutions publishes a detailed domain pricing table with separate registration and renewal columns. That is a meaningful disclosure because the first-year offer is not the long-term cost. At the time of review, the main domain page displayed one-year promotional prices of $9.99 for several popular extensions and a $34.99 renewal price for examples such as .com, .org, .net, and .online. Prices and eligibility can change, and premium names can be far more expensive.

The right comparison is the total cost over several years. For example, a low first-year price followed by materially higher renewals may cost more than a registrar with a less dramatic introductory discount. Add the cost of privacy, forwarding, email, SSL, or expiration protection only when those services are actually needed.

The domain offer details also deserve attention. Network Solutions says products automatically renew at the then-current rate unless canceled before renewal. Some promotions include an initial period of Domain Privacy + Protection, security services, or an additional domain that later renews at the regular rate. The domain page says optional promotional items can be removed from the cart. Review every line before paying and revisit the Renewal Center after setup.

Hosting and website building

Network Solutions’ shared hosting lineup is aimed at personal sites and small businesses rather than infrastructure teams. The official comparison describes tiers with different storage, website, visitor, FTP-account, and email-box limits. Starter is positioned for one small site, while higher tiers support more sites, traffic, storage, and mailboxes. The page advertises unmetered bandwidth and a 99.9% uptime service-level commitment.

Qualifying annual plans may include a domain for the first year. Essential and Premium plans advertise one annual term of a domain-validated SSL certificate, while the exact inclusion depends on the plan and offer. These benefits are temporary unless the current checkout says otherwise; domain and SSL renewal costs should be added to the second-year estimate.

The included drag-and-drop builder may suit a brochure site, simple portfolio, or early business presence. Buyers planning a large ecommerce operation, custom application, complex deployment pipeline, or resource-intensive WordPress site should compare specialized platforms. Network Solutions says it provides shared and managed WordPress hosting directly, while more advanced VPS or dedicated options may come through partners.

Email and security add-ons

Professional Email uses a customer’s domain for branded mailboxes and advertises spam filtering, virus scanning, calendars, contacts, mobile access, and administrative tools. It can also be connected to a domain registered elsewhere. That flexibility is useful, but businesses should compare mailbox storage, migration support, export options, retention, authentication controls, and per-user renewal cost with Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Zoho Mail, and other providers.

Domain Privacy + Protection replaces eligible public registration contact information with proxy details and adds monitoring features described by Network Solutions. SiteLock packages add malware scanning and, depending on tier, removal, blacklist monitoring, bot controls, a web application firewall, CDN features, database scanning, or patching. SSL protects data in transit; it is not the same service as malware scanning or backup. Buyers should avoid paying for overlapping tools without understanding what each one does.

Refunds, cancellation, and auto-renewal

The refund policy is one of the most important reasons for caution. Network Solutions describes its general position as no refunds, while allowing support to review limited requests case by case. A new product may be considered for refund when the customer contacts support within three days, and the product must then be removed from the account. An automatic renewal may be considered if support is contacted within 30 days of the charge.

Those statements use discretionary language rather than promising an unconditional money-back guarantee. Issued SSL certificates and premium domains are listed as non-refundable examples. The policy also says its exclusion list is not exhaustive.

For that reason, cancellation should happen before renewal rather than relying on a later refund. The Account Manager includes a Renewal Center where auto-renew can be enabled or disabled. Keep confirmation records, check all attached products rather than only the domain, and verify the payment method. Transferring a domain away does not itself cancel separate hosting, email, privacy, security, or marketing products.

Domain transfers and ownership controls

Network Solutions provides a documented path for transferring a domain out. The account’s Primary Contact must unlock the domain and request the authorization code. The code is sent to the registrant email on file, generally within 24 hours. Those roles are not identical: Network Solutions explains that the registrant is the legal owner shown for the domain, while the Primary Contact manages certain account-level actions.

Before initiating a transfer, confirm that both contacts are current and accessible. Some country-code and other extensions require the Primary Contact to call support. Newly registered or recently transferred domains can be subject to the standard 60-day restriction, and Network Solutions documentation also describes security locks that may affect timing.

Once the transfer is underway, DNS changes may be restricted. Set nameservers and other critical records first, back up the zone, lower time-to-live values when appropriate, and make sure website and email hosting remain active. A registrar transfer moves the domain registration, not the underlying site or mailbox data.

Support and public feedback

Network Solutions advertises 24/7 chat, phone access during published hours, a knowledge base, and business consultants. The help center is extensive and covers routine account, DNS, transfer, email, hosting, and security tasks.

Public feedback is polarized. Positive reports often focus on representatives who resolve billing or setup problems, while negative reports frequently mention renewal charges, transfer friction, account changes, and difficulty understanding which service remains active. User-review platforms are self-selecting and should not be treated as a representative survey. Still, the recurring themes reinforce the need for clear ownership records, screenshots of renewal settings, and a written inventory of every service in the account.

Alternatives to compare

For domains, compare Namecheap, Porkbun, Cloudflare Registrar, Dynadot, GoDaddy, and Squarespace Domains. Focus on renewal price, privacy inclusion, DNS features, support access, transfer workflow, and payment controls.

For hosting, compare SiteGround, Hostinger, DreamHost, Bluehost, and managed WordPress specialists. Wix and Squarespace may offer a simpler all-in-one website-building experience, while Shopify is more focused on commerce. Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, and Zoho Mail are stronger email comparisons than treating a registrar mailbox as the only option.

Final verdict

Network Solutions can work for a small business that values one-provider convenience, guided support, and an established domain-management platform. It is less attractive when long-term price transparency, included privacy, broad refunds, or developer infrastructure are the priority.

The safest purchase is deliberate: compare renewal prices before registering, remove unwanted cart additions, document auto-renew settings, keep registrant contact details current, and know how each attached service will be canceled or moved. Network Solutions is legitimate, but convenience should be weighed against the full multi-year cost and the administrative work required to leave later.

Frequently asked questions

Is Network Solutions legitimate?

Yes. Network Solutions is an established U.S.-based web services company with decades of operating history and public domain, hosting, support, renewal, refund, and transfer documentation. Legitimacy does not mean it is the best-value registrar for every buyer.

How much does a Network Solutions domain cost?

Pricing varies by extension and promotion. During this review, the official domain page advertised several common extensions at an introductory one-year price of $9.99 and showed a $34.99 renewal price. Premium domains and other extensions can cost much more, so verify both registration and renewal columns before checkout.

Can I transfer a domain away from Network Solutions?

Yes. The official instructions require an eligible domain to be unlocked and an authorization code requested. The code is sent to the registrant email, normally within 24 hours, and some extensions require support contact or have additional rules.
